EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE – JUNE 13, 2018

 

The Committee adopted a resolution to concur in the recommendation contained in the report, after amending recommendation #1 as follows:

 

That Celeste York be appointed to the Regina Planning Commission for a term effective July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020.

 

Recommendation #3 does not require City Council approval.

 

Mayor Michael Fougere, Councillors:  Jerry Flegel (Chair), Sharron Bryce, Lori Bresciani, John Findura, Bob Hawkins, Jason Mancinelli, Joel Murray, Mike O’Donnell, Andrew Stevens and Barbara Young were present during consideration of this report by the Executive Committee.

 

 

The Executive Committee, at the PRIVATE session of its meeting held on June 13, 2018, considered the following report from the Administration:

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

1.      That one individual be appointed to the Regina Planning Commission for a term of office effective July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020.

 

2.      That the member appointed to the board continue to hold office for the term indicated or until their successor is appointed.

 

3.      That this report be submitted to the June 25, 2018 City Council meeting for approval.

 

CONCLUSION

 

City Council should appoint a citizen member to fill the vacancy on the Regina Planning Commission.  The new member will be provided with an orientation by the Office of the City Clerk.

 

BACKGROUND

 

The purpose of this report is to facilitate the appointment of a citizen member to the Regina Planning Commission.

 

The Regina Planning Commission advises and assists City Council with respect to all matters pertaining to community planning and development. The Commission has the duties and powers as set forth in The Planning and Development Act, 2007 and The Committee Bylaw, No. 2009-40.  The terms of the citizen members are staggered, up to three-year appointments.

 

DISCUSSION

 

Executive Committee is required to nominate individuals for City Council consideration on the Regina Planning Commission. In preparation for the appointment the vacancy was advertised inviting citizens to apply for the position on the board and were placed in the Leader Post on May 12, 2018 and on the City of Regina website.  The deadline for applications was Monday, May 21, 2018.

Serving on a Committee of Council is both a privilege and means for the public to communicate with Council on behalf of the community.  The time, effort and expertise members dedicate to Committees of Council is invaluable and contributes significantly to Council’s vision.
